Start with the address and a few photos

Helpful details to include

1. Where the home is. A house a few blocks from the ocean, a lot backing onto a canal and a yard in the western suburbs each bring different concerns, from salt exposure to a high water table to long runs of slab.
2. What you want done. A new driveway, a replacement, a stamped entry or pool deck, a back patio, a walkway, or repairs to something that already exists. If you are not sure whether repair or replacement makes sense, say so.
3. How the slab gets used. Two sedans, a work truck, a boat trailer or an RV all ask different things of the concrete, and thickness and reinforcement follow from the heaviest vehicle.

Photos worth taking

Take a wide shot of the whole driveway or patio from the street or the yard, then close-ups of anything that bothers you: cracks, sections that have dropped, flaking or rust spots, and places where roots are lifting the edge. If you can, take one more set shortly after an afternoon storm. Standing water shows where the slope is wrong and where sand may be washing out, which often matters more than any crack.

What happens after you reach out

A contractor will get back to you to arrange a visit. On site they look at the slab, the ground around it, drainage from the roof and the yard, tree placement and access for trucks, and then put the scope and cost in writing. Until someone has seen the property, any number would be a guess.

If the work is not urgent, reaching out during the drier months gives you the easiest schedule. If a storm has already damaged a slab, send photos anyway so the repair can be planned once the yard dries out.
